I think you should stick to the 3x series Axims. They have a more powerful IR diode. My X3 is very quick and strong, they're cheap too (on Ebay).
I think the X30 will also do the job although it is reported to have slightly less range.
My X3 does 7 metres and works fine with Netremote.
Used to work with TR as well, main prob there was the lack of repeating buttons (volume).
