(even an old one like my redundant iPAQ 3850)
is quite capable of functioning as a "Super Pronto".
The RC review of the iPAQ/Nevo offering suggests
as much. PDA's pack far more capability into far
less space and cost way less than any color Pronto.
Half decent software abounds and would flourish
where it not for the inappropriate IR performance
generally offered by PDA hardware.
Commercially available repeaters such as Marmitek's PowerMid should work fine.
Even better than an IR repeater is a built-in solution such as the IR blaster from Laser Business Solutions (

I have been using it for a couple of years with my old iPAQ 3900. All I needed was a CF sleeve for the iPAQ (the Silver Slider) and the Pronto emulation SW, TV Remote Controller 5, from pdawin.com.
