I have been looking at buying a PDA (Dell Axis 51 or similar) to use with both IR and WiFi functionality for a htpc system and a home theater system. My concern is battery life...How does it work out for you?

Is it possible to leave the PDA on (backlight fading out after a minute or so) but with full WiFi connection? How long does the battery last for generally in that mode??

Or do you let the PDA go down in standby after inactivity? How long after starting up that you get full WIFI connection again?

I have never owned one myself... so I'm hoping for some good input.
