Most consumer remotes (even some that sell for less than $5) include a database of common IR codes so that users don't have to learn the code into the remote for every button on every device. I'm not aware of any software-only products that do this (but correct me if I'm wrong).

There are some large companies (Innotech, UEI, etc) that license darabases of IR codes for substantial fees, but for a humble developer hoping to release a software-only product on PDA's, these fees are prohibitive.

Is there a public, or even low-cost, database of IR codes out there that could be packaged with PDA software? Remote Central obviously has a great collection of codes, but these all have to be extracted from CCF's before they can be used, which is fine for enthusiasts, but not so good for mainstream consumers (your mom, for instance).

Any guidance?

Thanks,
Tim

UPDATE: Looks like VitoRemote and NoviiRemote both provide IR databases... I'm not sure what their sources are though.
