For what it's worth, my information sources (back of brain in spider web covered dark area), tells me that NiMH batteries don't have the memory effect to the same extent as NiCAD (obviously, no where near), but do have the effect over the long term. So, again, my information sources tell me that charging your battery to full charge at the beginning gives you the full potential of the battery in the long term. But.....
