If you are using the S12, why not do RS232? The protocol is very simple and works great. I have a dual Chassis S12 system running RS232 with no problem with just one RS232 port. This was about the easy system I have ever worked with especially the serial protocol. For the price of the serial cable you can save a bunch of real estate on your RP-6.
