JVC is pretty good about codes for VCRs. Mitsubishi's have discretes but not the longest service live.
There was a change on Sony VCRs a little while back.. that starburst at the bottom rather then the normal codes... and something with power ON I think. Been a while as we usually convince people to ditch the VCRs. Blow it up on a 100" DLP screen and they want it gone.
