If you want to back up your own DVDs, and they are not copy-protected, then:
1: download DVDshrink. It will compress a double-layer DVD so it will fit on a single-layer DVD-R/+R. 2: Buy Roxio or nero DVD burning software so you can burn the compressed files to a DVD. 3: learn how to use both programs.
It is not illegal to make a backup copy of the DVD movies you own. But it is illegal to crack the copyright protection on them. Proceed at your own risk.
