No, the MX-500 does not "remember" what it's already turned on. This is where having discrete On/Off commands comes in handy. If you moved up to one of the PC-programmable remotes (like an MX-700), it's likely that you would find discretes for your TV. If you need to keep costs down, you're probably better off with the 676.
