Success! A modified version of my Leapfrog idea has solved my problem. I did not need to use the Leapfrog transmitter (it conflicted with the MRF-100 anyway). The Leapfrog receiver is able to receive RF signals directly from my MX-600. And the Leapfrog IR extender cable puts out a signal level that does not freak out my TiVo.
I can finally control my TiVo, as well as all my other components, without having to point my remote directly at the equipment rack. Only took 6 months to find a workable solution - but it's finally over. Off to watch TiVo.
