The VCR record function out of Dish Network receivers ONLY starts and stops recording, It does not power the unit on. As far as the universal remote control functions go, you can only accsess RW,FF,PLAY,RECORD,STOP and PAUSE. The menu functions must be done with the manufactures remote control device.
