Stumped,
I'm way too embarassed to say.
Actually, no I'm not, it's a real no-name brand that I had not heard of: "ILO", model DVDR04. Paid $139 at my local Walmart.
I've had it about a week now, and have succesfully burned about a dozen DVD's so far. I've tried recording both live broadcasts, and others that I had saved to DVR, and really cannot fault it for the money.
It only uses DVD+R or RW, but every one has played succesfully in my Sony changer and my PC. I haven't tried copying to it from another DVD as yet, so cannot comment on if/how that works out, but that's not too much of a concern for me.
I think for a basic introduction to DVD recorders, you could do a lot worse than this model, and for me it will do until the better models become both available and affordable.
