Have you ever looked up the word abysmal in the dictionary? If abysmal is better than SVHS, but less good than pre-recorded DVD, does that make SVHS hellish, DVD poor, and I suppose VHS makes you homicidal? HD must be, what....just ok?

Costco are currently selling a philips model that
has component inputs, I would imagine that this
would do a farly decent recording. however it
only has PCM audio inputs, so no 5.1.

Nothing has 5.1 recording, and is not likely to very soon. Perhaps HD recorders when they come out.
