A general note: combo units are always a mess when it comes to remote control. It used to be impossible, or at least impossible to figure out, to control a TV/VCR combo. They all used VCR codes, which have no volume commands.
I have a client with a Yamaha combo DVD/surround amp combined with a TV with a media box. What a circus that is!
When I was in sales, people were always concerned about buying a combo because they thought two units in one would fail twice as much as singles. I've seen zero evidence of that, but if you're going to buy a combo, don't even THINK of using another remote unless you want to become proficient with arcane remote control problems.
