It switches seamlessly between all different station formats. You can use just HDMI or just Component and get everything. Currently I'm using component. I should note that the analog tuner is NOT the best I have seen (unfortunantly I've never seen a OTA HDTV receiver or cable HDTV box that actually did have a good analog tuner). It generally looks better if you don't allow the unit to do the upscaling itself, and instead output analog at 480i.
