You don't program the receivers at all. You setup 6 devices on the universal remote, each device is set to RF only, meaning it will only communicate with basestation, its the basestation then actually sends IR signals over wired emitters that are taped to the receivers. Taped in way that only IR commands from emitter reach the receiver.
