I just looked at the manual, and it looks like
D1, D2, D3 are the settings of the rotary switches

on the back of the RC68, which defines which commands
come out of the remote when you push the different
buttons.

Yes, that's correct.

This means that I don't get what cj originally
referred to as D1 - D6, as the manual speaks of
D1 - D3, and says these are three different code
sets for three different machines. I assume this
is like Sony's VCR code sets 1,2,3, which allow
you to use multiple VCRs in the same room with
no interference among the three.

There has been an update. You can now use D1-D6 to control all 6 zone outputs, not just the first three.

If it's a lot easier to learn just one button
for each of D1, D2, D3 rather than 32 buttons.
I'm pretty sure that the 32 buttons are just
command numbers 0 to 31 in NEC1 protocol, which
can be generated with MakeHex. I'm much less
sure about what device numbers you get for D1,
D2 and D3.

If you give me Pronto Hex or a CCF file for one
button each of D1,D2,D3 I can use IrTool.exe or
decodeccf.exe to pull out the device numbers.

That would be great. Ernie had graciously offered to learn all the commands, but this should save him a lot of time. I'll see if I can use those programs to do it myself.

Thanks,
CJ
