I just looked at the manual, and it looks like D1, D2, D3 are the settings of the rotary switches on the back of the RC68, which defines which commands come out of the remote when you push the different buttons.

This means that I don't get what cj originally referred to as D1 - D6, as the manual speaks of D1 - D3, and says these are three different code sets for three different machines. I assume this is like Sony's VCR code sets 1,2,3, which allow you to use multiple VCRs in the same room with no interference among the three.
