Gary: a USB to serial adapter is needed if your PC does not have a serial port. If you have a USB to PDA adapter (looks like a serial adapter but it is meant for PDAs, it will not work. Some PDA Synch programs are real hogs, you might need to disable them when you want RE to talk to the remote.
