They can.
Microwave ovens and 802.11b network devices also share the same frequency range.
I switched to a 900Mhz phone to eliminate interference I was getting from my 2.4G video sender and my old 2.4G phone. I still use the video sender, but if someone uses the microwave oven, it scrambles the signal.
