In respect to cables, you should budget yourself about 10%-15% of the cost of the total system towards cables. If you are investing in a $250 dollar DVD, don't go with the $50 S-video and the $100 digital coax! Invest wisely, flip through various theater mags (they do have comparison tests every now and then), and just use your best judgement.
