Two other things:

Position the front edge of the speaker even with the front edge of the T.V. to avoid unwanted reflections off the top of the set.

Angle the speaker downwards until it "points" directly at the listening position, at approximately ear height for the listener. This will avoid much of the signal going over your head, and will avoid unwanted reflections off the ceiling.
