good questions,

I am getting ready to purchase a couple of 985v 400 DVD changers from sony and load each up with movies and music.

The receiver I am looking at only has one multi channel input, so I will be forced to put my SACD disks in one player by itself and will be forced into only having SACD sound in one room only, even though I will have a 7.1 channel theatre in the main living room and a 5.1 channel system wired to the den, a useless loss of features.

And the fact that the sony's don't support DVD audio is a bummer, because even if i bought an another DVD audio cabable player, I wouldn't have a place to plug it in.

Interestingly, one of the receivers I was considering, the Sony STR D5000ES, has two multichannel inputs. Like sony knows you have to go out and purchase another machine for the DVD audio...

Thinking out loud now (sorry), but I guess I could just Y the multichannel output from the changer to each receiver. I am sure audiophiles would all roll their eyes at that one....
