Rich, that is a perfectly good hex string for device 4, command 55 (decimal).
Daniel, can you share more information about that System off command? Where did you find it? Any devices on which you know for sure it works? And are we correct in assuming you meant 55 decimal, not 55 hex?
I looked in a bunch of sources for Sony IR signals and I see no other mention of this command.
