HD-DVD is anything but dead.

The Toshiba player with the Silicon Optics chip is already out. They use it in the HD-XA-2.
It is the Reon-VX HQV chip. The same chip used in the high end Denon players.
It is arguably one of the best Hi Def machines out there. Also one of the best upscalers for S DVD's.
I picked up the XA-2 a week ago and absolutely love it.
