I have a Mertik Maxitrol remote control for my gas fireplace logs. It says that the remote control is made in Germany. I came with the gas logs that I purchased from a company call Sure Heat Manufacturing.

Questions:

1. Anybody heard of this remote control before?
2. Is it IR or is it RF?
3. If IR, I couldn't get my HTM MX-500 to recognize it's commands which are:
UP Flame and Down Flame (like volume up and volume down).

Any help would be appreciated.
