Start by turning on the device that you want to program.
(1) Press & release the device button that you want to
program, lets say "VCR" LED will flase once
(2) Press & hold the "CODE SEARCH" button until the LED
stays on.
(3) Press and release the POWER button. Point the remote
at the device.
(4)The LED will flash as the remote is searching for the
code.
(5) As soon as the device turns off press and release
the "ENTER" button.
The remote should NOW be programed.
THANKS FOR THE HELP HERE. I DID AS YOU SAID. BUT IT NEVER TURNED OFF THE DIRECTV UNIT. FINALLY IT STOPPED THE SEARCH. BUT STILL THE REMOTE DOES NOT RECOGONIZE HE DIRECTV SYSTEM. SO FAR I DO NOT FIND ANYWHERE WHERE THIS REMOTE WORKS FOR DIRECTV SYSTEMS. IF YOU DO KNOW OF ANYTHING ELSE THAN PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
