Subject: RM-AV3000/3100: How To Change or Hide Label and Button Keys (Some page references may differ for the RM-AV3100)

The information in this thread was spread out over several other threads, so I am putting everything here to make it easier to refer to, and also to make it easier for new owners to get all the information they need in one thread.

THIS THREAD IS INTENDED AS A REFERENCE SOURCE FOR USERS OF THE RM-AV3000/RM-AV3100 REMOTES. PLEASE DO NOT POST QUESTIONS HERE.

Listed below are the procedures for editing the text on the square button keys and the rectangular label keys, and hiding unused square button keys.

TO CYCLE THROUGH THE FOUR RECTANGULAR LABEL KEYS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE COMPONENT SCREEN: Press the device name in the upper right hand corner of the screen, next to the power button.

TO HIDE A SQUARE BUTTON: (you can’t hide a button with a learned command on it, so if you have learned a command you will have to delete it first): When you are in the learn mode, the buttons will flash. The buttons that flash every time will show on the screen and the buttons that flash every other time will not. To hide, press and hold DEL and press the button; when it is flashing every other time it will be hidden when you return to the component screen. To make the button reappear after hiding, press and hold DEL, press the button and release.

TO CHANGE WHAT IS ON A SQUARE BUTTON: (you can only scroll through what is already there, you cannot label them like the label buttons, and you have to do it before you learn a command on it-if you have learned a command on it, press and hold DEL/press the button, and the command will be deleted): When in the learn mode, press and hold either the hard component button or the device label in the upper right hand corner next to the power button, then press the key repeatedly until the label you want appears. Release the component button, it will flash, and then you are ready to learn.

TO HIDE THE RECORD/PLAY BUTTONS: When you are in the learn mode, press and hold DEL, then press and hold the record button, and then press the play button. It may take a few attempts, but it can be done. Since you have to press the REC and PLAY keys to record (as a safety measure), they are linked together. This is why they have to be deleted together. Hint: If you are running out of keys to teach to, you can teach another command to the record key, but it will still retain it’s record function when pressed together with the play key (so you want to teach it something that will not affect the record procedure). Just be sure that the REC and PLAY keys were not hidden when you do this or it will not work. If you want to use a one button record, just teach the record command to the record key and you will only have to press one button to put the vcr in record mode. To show the record and play buttons, repeat the procedure.

TO RELABEL A RECTANGULAR LABEL KEY: (this applies to component, system, and timer keys)

When done, be sure and press “Return” to retain the changes
Hold Commander Off for 3 seconds, or press until screen goes off

Press and hold the component name in the upper right hand corner of the screen, next to the power button, for two seconds
