I'm back. Just to be clear, the problem is with ome of the "X" series boxes. Delivered as "self install kit" directly from Comcast hive to client. And yes... after unpairing I found the ir sensor as Tom described it
But my recent experience is that of Greg not Brad. If its an X series box and remote is paired then the IR sensor is deaf and dumb.
I checked in with URC tech support today and they confirmed my experience. Installed a Xi6 today. This is the Comcast "Roku" HD box. Meaning there is no coax connection point on it...But there is an active ethernet port. So I will be trying out ip contol with the Comcast. Two way module from URC with the TRC 1480. Perhaps that will work alongside the paired remote. I'll check back in next week.....
