in other news, the local Comcast office told me that Xi6 boxes are going to become Comcast technician only devices and won’t be stocked in the local office. And that is not helpful.

Great!! Last week a Comcast technician installed new cable boxes at an installation and notified my customer that the Gateway was old and replaced it with a new Gateway. Well, OK the original Gateway was a bit dated, but working fine. The tech's idea of installing a new gateway was simply disconnecting coax feed to the old gateway in the laundry room and installing his new gateway in the center of the space. [sigh] Everything is wireless now, right? He didn't think that there was any need to connect the new Gateway to the network's router (not possible at that location), stranding the wired clients and access points. Actually it would have been less work to simply put the new Gateway in Bridge mode and physically swap it with the old Gateway. And the newly installed MOCA filter would have been in a better location in the laundry room.

The Comcast technician's idea of testing the network consisted of asking the customer to view a web page on his phone. Had he attempted to use the wired Sonos system or the phone in a more distant location, there would have been a fail.
