...what I learned when figuring out this stuff is that nice opaque black tape is not necessarily opaque
to IR.
"Colors" of light that we cannot see might be "seen" by IR sensors. The opposite it true, too. Black tape is not necessarily actually "black." Experiment to see how your particular circumstance works.
