Oh man ... if we're going down memory lane, I got into this with a Marantz RC1200MKII ... that thing was awesome. From there I had a couple of Prontos, an HK Take Control, probably a couple of Harmony's, a Nevo C2 (programmed using JP1 Remote Master) and many URC remotes (MX-500, MX-700, MX-980, MX-900, MX-880, MX-5000 (with MRX-1), MX-450, and currently multiple MX-990s).
Obviously the MX-980 was a fantastic remote, but I also really like the 880 except for the atrocious programming software. The 990s are great remotes.
