You're talking about a market, that is hyper cost sensitive to the bottom line. They will shave any corner to save even a penny ($0.01) on the product. So the SOC (System On a Chip) that is used, is the absolute cheapest to just barely get the job done for that model.
In many situations, that doesn't make for the best user experience.

That is one of a 'list' of reasons why it is usually not a good idea to rely on the TV apps. But so many people just keep pushing to try and make it so. I just don't get it *shakes head*.
