When I left 3 years ago, JVC still only did e shift 4k, but there were rumors of native 4K. Can't remember if it was DILA LCOS or DLP? Did they finally bring out a native 4k? What chip set solution? General price point? Light source?
I still personally use a JVC 1080 DILA - 10 years old maybe more. Good unit. Still looks good as long as it's a bulb within it's first half of life. Never had any issues with it, and only a few customers units I sold in that period.
At that time, if you had a service issue, it was painful getting it serviced and even getting though to their service dept. Glad to see they've maybe remedied that.
But when I over to Epson, it was like a breath of fresh air. Great service when I needed it. Pretty reliable too. And flexible lens shift and zoom. So easy to set up too.
Can't believe Epson still hasn't locked on to native 4k. 5 years ago, they had a LCOS unit with E shift and a laser light source. I thought that might be the direction they were headed into. But I guess not? Still using 1080 LCD panels? Not sure if that LCOS they had out was their own chip set?
If I were investing in a PJ these days, my short list would consist of :
4k native laser light source LCOS or other reflective chip set Reasonable optical lens shift and zoom options
I think Sony may be the only option with that criteria list, except for expensive boutique brands (if any of those still exist)...and possibly JVC.
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.
