I know they did not impress you, but if the Sonos app will be primary, and you don’t want sheetrock repair, I’d still use the Lutron Picos.
They are cheap. They do fine on volume, play/pause, and skip for those rare times you don’t have a phone nearby. And they will nicely cover the hole in the wall.
