It's true that some will not work. I've been using the SABRENT USB 2.0 To SERIAL ADAPTER (CB-DB9P) for years and it's worked flawlessly on both Win 7 & Win 10. They're available on Amazon & Ebay (I just picked up a spare on Ebay CHEAP from a good seller.) I don't know if we're allowed to link to other sites sales here....
Also, if you continue to have trouble, you need to change your COM port settings.
