Well after reinstalling windows on my 2020 MacBook and again on my 2016 model I still had no luck. I tried different cables and quite a few other things without success.
I tried every port without success then as I was about to accept that it would not work I finally tried all of the ports again. Finally, I got it to work, it makes no sense to me but at least it is working now.
