From what I’ve seen even if a end user has experience programming a remote, they usually don’t understand how to do it correctly.
We have a customer (a doctor) who is so proud of his Harmony program. It's a wreck. If I go there for some other reason, I'll use the native remotes and be very careful to log, then restore the current state of everything before I leave.
