Before HDMI over fiber, we used cat5, cat6 cables for extenders. If the electronics at each end of the cable failed, there was always a newer better extender that could be installed. With fiber, how do you ensure that the electronics at the end can be replaced with newer electronics, on some of these proprietary fiber systems?
