Here's a blast from the past for you guys. Our new broadcast specs came in yesterday and for some reason this broadcaster is demanding delivery on HDCAM; among far worse things. We do have a deck and can get some tapes so that's not a big deal but we haven't delivered to tape in over 5 years so we don't have the serial cables to connect to our deck anymore. Thus introduces my query.

We have some old converters that we built and used to use. [Link: curated.onl] Basically they are a USB -> RS 232 converter attached to an RS 232 -> RS 422 converter. They used to work flawlessly and I'm sure still will but we lack the cabling. The Deck (Sony HDW M2000) needs 422 [Link: pcbuilder.onl] standard from what I can find (makes sense with our converters) but 422 cables cost over 10x as much as 232 cables. I was thinking about it though and if I'm not mistaken the cable itself is just copper wrapped in rubber with 9 pins on each end is it not? Which means since the conversion to 422 is being done already should the output pins not line up the way the deck wants and therefore function?https://reversephonelookup.onl/

I know it's a bit of an odd question but can anyone confirm whether this should work or not? IN theory I think it should but I wasn't around when we bought the original cables to say for sure.
