I am not a CI but have been an IT professional since 1960, back when it was not even called IT. In my home, I have an extensive LAN with a Mikrotik router (no Wi-Fi), a main unmanaged switch, and several downstream switches (Server room, Office, Theater, two bedrooms). There is a single Unifi WAP centrally located in the house on the ceiling. All LAN equipment is rated 1Gig and there are no redundant paths so no loops. There are 5 main computers on the LAN plus all of the theater A/V equipment is TCP/IP controlled. The house is extensively automated, with Amazon voice control and Insteon switching. A Raspberry Pi acts as a central controller for certain functions, and a UDI controller handles all the Insteon and Z-Wave traffic.
