I have owned several MX-500 remotes and they have always had a green backlight.

Now I'm starting to see MX-500's with a blue backlight. Did URC really change over to blue in the later versions.

I've owned several versions of the MX-500 over the years (mostly URC, but some are the NXG and Lexicon versions). The first few i bought new at Circuit City, then later would randomly buy used ones on eBay.

While the original ones had the usual green screen illumination with black text, some of the used eBay ones i got would light up like a "negative" dark colored screen with light colored text like in your Crutchfield picture. We actually prefer that over the original green screen/black text as it's easier to see at night. The wife still uses the MX-500 in her Den so i keep the others in storage as spares for when hers wear out or die.
