Yes, but it requires something called an imagelist. I use one with 4 states for Nest. Heat / cool / heat-cool (auto) / off. I use the driver feedback for the current mode and tie it to the imagelist.

The problem with these is you need to know a little about XML files. Your images, and the XML have to all go into a single folder, and you select one of the states as the sample image that will be viewable in ID when editing. Then you browse that folder from ID and drag it into a page from the bitmaps tab.

That ring around the center (in the graphical example below) is what changes depending on the selected mode. The feedback also changes on the buttons themselves. The "notches" are also imagelists that tie back to the current temperature feedback for ambient and target. They operate just like the ones on the actual thermostat. They all have at least 50 states all rolled into a single imagelist / button.

Been doing this a long time.... can pretty much do anything with RTI (graphically).
