The simple cure for people getting upset about our profit is to point out that, in general, furniture sells at two times its cost.
When a furniture store "slashes" its prices by 30%, it's making about what we hope to make on product.
We could go into markup versus margin, but I don't know if that would help customers understand things any more clearly.
Or maybe there's just "the profit on these items is what keeps my doors open. As long as I know your system, I'm the least expensive installer you'll run into because I won't have to spend time figuring out what's there. I won't be here to do that without profit."
