He's looking for the Samsung "Ambient Mode" command. If the described method works to capture IR, you still have to get the command. Does the Samsung remote have a discrete "Ambient Mode" button? Probably not.
He said, "There's a button on the TV's remote control that does it, but that stupid little remote is bluetooth/RF (or whatever they use) only", which I interpreted as a button with the discrete code. Otherwise why would he want to have the IR command on the remote?
Regardless, you could be right.
