You can buy a Bi-amp Nexia VC on Ebay for $20 right now.
Run your sources into it, set up all inputs on a mixer so no manual switching etc is needed. This will work fine if he doesn't plan on using both sources at the same time in different rooms.
It has enough for two stereo outputs, output to sonos, output to receiver.
It's overkill and used product, but it won't break.
