Hmmm. Are those apps made by the individual companies? If so, then supplying you with an app is profitable in that it encourages you to buy their products. (I assume that the apps you have were free.)

By the way, since you're using the phone apps for setting up the TVs, you need something for initial setup of the TVs. This implies the TVs are new. That implies the remote hasn't yet been eaten by the dog. Why not use the factory remote?
