Well, the first thought, after seeing a TV ad, is, wow, that's pretty neat. Second thought is, crap, I'd have to actually start using facebook. Third thought is, yup, it's an electronic device and there are zero wires showing in the ads. Liars.
At the moment they're in the preorder phase, with the Portal at $199, a hundred bucks off if you buy two, and the Portal+ at $349. Like they wouldn't sell more Portal+s if they offered a discount on two.
Companies introduce products without knowing who and where and how they will be used. My reference for that concept was the $27,000 Faroudja line quadrupler of the late 90s. They were stunned when I asked whether they had a model with IR control, since I had two clients who wanted to use them in their homes....
