The topic of another thread ([Link: remotecentral.com]) is the use of Slingbox to play programming from Switzerland in the US. This has brought some questions to mind that I have not heard asked, nor explained as part of common knowledge about HDMI.

US power is 60 Hz. European power is 50 Hz. Backing up to standard definition TV, NTSC is based on 60 Hz, though the power line has not been directly usable as a frequency reference for TV at least since color TV was introduced, at which time the scanning frequency was changed to, I believe, 59.94 Hz. PAL is based on 50 Hz.

So what about HDMI? Does it, did it, depend on or have any relationship to the frequency of the power line in the country where it's used? Is HDMI related to 50 Hz, meaning 50 frames per second, in Europe? Is there, instead, one international standard of 60 fps? And, of course, other frame rates to match movie frame rates?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
