CES has tightened things up a bit, but mostly to force more people to pay for a pass, rather than keep the consumers out.
Having to pay for a pass severely limits the number of consumers who will be willing to go. Hell, every winter there's a discussion here about how to get free passes.
If paying for CES is an issue for those of us whose bread and butter comes from being up to date and connecting with product and people at CES, it's even more of a deterrent to those who just want to go see some shiny new things.
